I've really enjoyed Herbert & Anderson's expansion of the Dune Saga, House Harkonnen is the second book in the trilogy that is a direct Prequel to Dune, It's the story of how and why Baron Harkonnen and Duke Leto have such hatred for each other and why Shaddam IV is /5().

Dune: House Harkonnen is another excellent prequel to Frank Herberts Dune series. It was co-written by Herberts son and Kevin Anderson, who have collaborated on several other Dune prequels including Dune House Atreides/5.

The rise of House Harkonnen was an example of how, in the Faufreluches system, a Minor House could become a Major House through the amassment of wealth. It could be determined, therefore, that one of the faults of the Faufreluches system was that a banished House could Army: Regular Great House, Mercenaries.

House Harkonnen is a massive book, and there are places where it becomes plot heavy, but in following the story of Duke Leto Atreides and the conflicts with House Harkonnen, the authors succeed in spinning a gripping adventure while going off in some unexpected directions/5().
